People died unnecessarily because the soldiers' juvenile antics deeply offended that which local people hold extremely sacred. Adults and educated people understand that it is not necessary to be so childishly disrespectful in order to articulate a legitimate position of disagreement. Only immaturity craves the attention that comes from being so sensationally offensive.

No doubt, rather than "burn" a Bible, a wise man, Christian or not, can encounter an abundance of knowledge and wisdom in it. A scholar -- again Christian or not (even atheist) -- will find fascinating parts of the Bible that elucidate history and provide context for all manner of human interaction.
