There are various spiritual paths to Truth & Wisdom, and traditional religion may or may not help one to find them. Certainly history is replete with examples of people finding in religious teachings their justifications for wickedness and/or melding wicked doctrine with divinely-inspired teachings. Haile Selassie I was and is Christian, and recognized that Truth and Wisdom were available for the having along the Christian path (even as He cautioned people about approaching their spirituality through corrupted religion). He also endorsed the example of Jesus Christ’s exemplary life as a model of Righteous conduct that would serve people well in their trod (i.e., implying no need for each person to re-invent the wheel when an undeniably righteous example was available).
No single religion, or several together, has a monopoly on Truth or Wisdom. Truth and Wisdom are timeless and do not morph to fit a particular age, culture or agenda. There is beauty in this fixed nature of Truth and Wisdom for the person seeking Righteousness while at the same time there is a lot of inconvenience in it for the wolves among us inasmuch as Truth and Wisdom shine a bright light to expose false doctrine and even have to power to permit us to discern insincerity and disingenuousness.
